The Children Of Africa Co-Author Luca Zordan on MyTempO! with Morgan
Following the tremendous success of the book Children of China, this vision for Children of Africa was born. With the team up of renowned fashion stylist Alethea Gold and award winning children's photographer, Luca Zordan who worked together for many years, they compiled a beautiful photographic book showcasing children in China with all proceeds donated to the Chi Heng Foundation to support orphaned HIV/AIDS affected children in Central China. In time for the Beijing Olympics, the book was endorsed by Jackie Chan with a full support of the Chinese Government and corporate support worldwide with the likes of Coca Cola, Citibank, KPMG, Qantas, MAC, Louis Vuitton, and many more. The team is doing it this time in South Africa undertaking their time, pro-Bono, to the Children of South Africa project. 100% of the profits are being donated directly to the MaAfrika Tikkun charity (of which Nelson Mandela is the Chief Patron) to support orphans and vulnerable children in South Africa. The Children of South Africa is a stunning photographic journey capturing South African children from every walk of life, set against some of the most beautiful landscapes and architecture. These powerful, emotive images will highlight the magic, diverse beauty and spirit of hope that is South Africa. The book has been launched before the opening of FIFA World Cup which is being held in South Africa. It is a corporate gift which is not only a memento for South Africa but will make a genuine change ...

First Wednesday: KONY 2012 - A force for good?
First Wednesday: KONY 2012 - A force for good?
04/04/12 The recent KONY 2012 campaign video has been met with strong criticism, but nobody can question its effectiveness in reaching a mass audience. The film, created by Invisible Children and featuring director and founder of Invisible Children Jason Russell, is reportedly one of the fastest spreading viral videos ever, reaching over 100 million views in a week. It has been criticised for presenting a complex situation as a simplified problem with a simple solution, for reinforcing the idea that Africans are helpless victims who need to be 'saved' by 'the West' and for misrepresenting reality. Despite its inaccuracies this campaign has created wider awareness about Joseph Kony and the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) than any news report or campaign that has come before it, so what can be learned? Join us for April's First Wednesday as we debate whether the KONY 2012 campaign is a force for good or a worrying development in campaigning. Hosted by Paddy O'Connell of BBC Radio 4's Broadcasting House. With: Benjamin Chesterton, radio documentary and photofilm producer, co-founder of the production company duckrabbit and the website A Developing Story. Amanda Weisbaum, Programmes Director at War Child, who work on the ground with communities affected by the LRA in Northern Uganda and Central African Republic. In memory of Dennis Brutus 1924-2009
In memory of the late Dennis Brutus. 28 November 1924 - 26 December 2009 Created by RastaPeople.info ----------------------------------------- Some information from Wikipedia: "Brutus was an activist against the apartheid government of South Africa in the 1960s. He campaigned to get South Africa suspended from the Olympic Games; this eventually led to the country's expulsion from the games in 1970. He joined the Anti-Coloured Affairs Department organisation (Anti-CAD), a group that organised against the Coloured Affairs Department which was an attempt by the government to institutionalise divisions between blacks and coloureds. He was arrested in 1963 and jailed for 18 months on Robben Island. Brutus was forbidden to teach, write and publish in South Africa. His first collection of poetry, Sirens, Knuckles and Boots, was published in Nigeria while he was in prison. The book received the Mbari Poetry Prize, awarded to a black poet of distinction, but Brutus turned it down on the grounds of its racial exclusivity. In December 2007, Brutus was to be inducted into the South African Sports Hall of Fame. At the induction ceremony, Brutus publicly turned down his nomination, stating, "It is incompatible to have those who championed racist sport alongside its genuine victims. Its time—indeed long past time—for sports truth, apologies and reconciliation."
